Restoration of the Queen Anne Cottage
About This Event
Mitchell Hearns Bishop, Curator of Historical Collections, will discuss how the Arboretum was founded with the assumption that it would be both a botanic garden and a historic site since the founders were aware of the importance of the historic buildings.
The restoration of the Cottage was led by Maurice Block, then Curator of Art at the Huntington Art Gallery from 1928 to 1948. He came to the project with a vision of what the Cottage could be. At the time, appreciation of Victorian aesthetics were only beginning to be regarded in a favorable way once again after being decidedly out of fashion.
