Baldwin Lake in Drought

The current drought in Southern California is among the worst we have seen. Unfortunately, last winter’s rains did not lessen the significant impacts on Baldwin Lake.

Why not refill the Lake?
At present, the sole option for filling the Lake is to use the same potable water that fills our home faucets, which is not possible due to conservation restrictions.

What is the long-term future of the Lake?
Created over a century ago, Baldwin Lake presents many challenges for the future. Shoreline repair, runoff cleansing and management, increased circulation and depth, and new sources of inflow are among its many needs. While engineering studies are required to determine project costs, it is clear that only County and State agencies can mount an undertaking of this magnitude. The good news is that the Lake is included as a high priority project with the Rio Hondo/San Gabriel River Enhanced Watershed Management Plan, which could bring the funding needed to restore this magnificent landmark.
