Step into the twilight and reconsider the plants we love to loathe. On this adults-only night hike, we’ll meet the so-called “weeds”—dandelions, poppies, and other resilient renegades—and explore how these plants thrive, adapt, and quietly shape the landscape.

We’ll trace the clever journeys of seeds as they sail on the wind, cling to passing creatures, tumble, burst, and drift into new territory. Along the way, we’ll stir in a bit of mead mythology—often considered the world’s oldest alcoholic beverage—and the long human history intertwined with flowering plants, pollinators, and fermentation.

An evening where botany gets a little wild and history lingers in the air.

What is a Night Hike:
A night hike is a guided evening program that offers an exclusive look at the Arboretum after dark. This experience features a relaxed, easy-paced walk through the gardens with frequent stops for storytelling, discussion, and sensory exploration—inviting participants to slow down and connect with the landscape in a deeper, more reflective way. This program is designed for adults ages 18 and older.

Event Details:
-Bring comfortable layers of clothing in preparation for the temperature shift that occurs after sundown.
-Apply insect repellent as needed.
-Wear comfortable walking shoes
-We recommend bringing a water bottle

Day of Details:
-Meet your guide at the Main Entrance at the Arboretum.
-Check-in begins 15 minutes prior to event start time.
-As this is an after-hours event, gates will be locked promptly at event start time. No staff will be available to intercept late arrivals.
-Night Hike will be cancelled due to weather related concerns and participants will be notified.

Cancellation/Reschedule/Refund Policy:
Cancellations or reschedules must be requested in advance of one week prior to the program start date in order to qualify for a refund or reschedule. Cancellations or reschedules requested within 7 days of the class start date will not qualify for a refund or reschedule. The Arboretum does not offer credit or reschedules for tardiness or missed classes. If you are unable to cancel within the required refund window, please consider your program fee a donation to the garden. Your registration confirms your understanding of and agreement with this policy.
