CANCELLED Family Night Hike: Back To School
About This Event
August 17th
5:30-7pm
Summer is over and we are back to school. Today we get our school supplies from the store, but what if you were going to school in Ancient Egypt, Stone Age France, or Victorian England? Pens, pencils, ink and paper have looked very different throughout the years. In this kid-friendly garden hike, we are going to explore what school supplies looked like throughout history and what plants make that possible. We will discover the swampy origins of papyrus scrolls, figure out how folks would do math before numbers, and find the plants that make ink and erasers possible. Along the way we will try our hands at making some of our own school supplies, paper and pencils, from scratch.
