Family Night Hike: Botany of Ice Cream
Program Details
Botany of Ice Cream
July 20th, 5:30pm-7pm
We all know what goes into ice cream, right? Or do we? In this night hike program, we will go beyond the cow and look deep into the surprising world of ice cream. From everyday fruits to rare and exotic flavors, we will explore the origins of mint chip, rocky road and neapolitan. We will play with the gooey marshmallow mucilage and gloopy goos that give ice cream their distinct texture. As we explore the garden, we will also look into the mysterious and ancient origins of this frozen dairy treat. Who ate the first ice-cream and how is it different from the dessert we know and love today? Finally, we will end the evening with a taste of ice cream we make ourselves.
