Spring Break Camp for Adults: Party Plants
Program Details
SPRING BREAK CAMP FOR ADULTS!- “Party Plants!”
April 6th, 2-6pm
Ah, springtime… A time for flowers blooming, buds bursting, and of course raging spring break partygoers. On April 6th, the Arboretum will play host to some of that Spring Break revelry! Returning as a springtime botanical adventure, this program is an offshoot of our popular Summer Camp for Adults, just without the sweltering heat! This adult camp is all about plants that like to have fun. We’ll learn about various fun plant phenomena, from trees that grow colorful rainbow bark to plants that put on costumes to attract amorous attention. Did you know that plants can dance? We will explore all about plants that move and grove, like popping cucumbers, sensitive mimosas, and sun-seeking sunflowers. How did plants help people party in the past? We will discover how periwinkle and ivy became important symbols at weddings, how the toxic yew tree led to our modern Christmas traditions, what grape vines tell us about the ancient Roman god of revelry and more. We’ll also learn a bit about how animals get drunk on plants in the wild! Yes, they too like to party from time to time. While adults are sure to have fun in this program, it’s really the plants that’ll be the wild party animals!
The inspiration for Summer Camp for Adults came directly from adult feedback! Year after year we have heard parents of our youth campers, as well as general guests who witnessed our children’s camp programs, say things like “Oh wow, I wish I could attend this camp!” Well, we took their comments seriously, and gave them that opportunity! While each Adult Camp theme is tailored to a grown-up audience, the program mirrors a day in the life of an Arboretum summer camper, giving adults a chance to escape the intensity of their daily responsibilities and travel back in time to when they attended summer camp as children. And for those who never got to attend camp as a child, this program allows you to experience the magic of a camp experience for the first time.
Come party with our plants!
