Captured through the lens of Rick Darke, New York City’s High Line and the acclaimed work of designer Piet Oudolf lend focus to the exploration of new landscapes emerging from vernacular origins.

His photographs illuminate Oudolf’s transformative design of the High Line’s extraordinary public space, once an elevated freight rail line in Manhattan’s West Side.

The story of High Line is beautifully told in the newly released book, Gardens of the High Line: Elevating the Nature of Modern Landscapes by Oudolf and Darke.

Darke will explore the High Line and other landscapes that reflect past land use while celebrating visionary new forms and purpose. Darke, a landscape designer, lecturer and photographer, blends art, ecology and cultural geography in the creation and stewardship of living landscapes.  He is the author of The Encyclopedia of Grasses, and Lessons from the Arts and Crafts Garden.
