Come join us for a fun afternoon filled with history, plant medicine, and herbal ale tasting! The prevalence of hops are a relatively new addition to fermentation’s long and exciting history. The first evidence of beer dates back over 7,000 years, whereas the first documented use of hops in beer was shy of 1,000 years ago. So what were brewers using to flavor and bitter their brews prior to hops? Join us in a brief history of the role women and plants have played in the evolution of brewing. We will discuss our methods of incorporating plants for both their flavoring, medicinal, and energetic properties. Attendees will taste teas and gluten free organic herbal ales brewed with the plants side by side.
Must be 21+ with ID to attend.
About Wave Maiden
Wave Maiden is a nano brewery in Los Angeles dedicated to producing experimental herbal ale and ancient grain beers rooted in plant medicine and nourishment. We are proud that our herbal ales sans grain dramatically reduce the food + water waste of most commercial recipes. At Wave Maiden, 100% of the byproduct from brew day is composted—helping build our soil, put carbon back in the ground where it belongs, and be proud to be part of regenerative farming practices. The dedicated Wave Maiden brewery and taproom is set to open its doors in Long Beach in 2020. www.wavemaidenaleworks.com
Meet The Brewer
Our brewer Margaux is a trained herbalist and plant medicine maker. After working with clients who enjoyed her tea blends but wanted a beer or wine after work, Margaux’s research brought her to the idea of creating progressively traditional brews. Combining her love of craft beer and herbalism, she launched a line of herbal ales as a choice for the adventurous, the gluten-free, and the beer lover alike with a sincere effort to have an environmentally positive impact.
