Set the intention to grow more than plants when you cultivate a symbiotic relationship between your garden and the garden of your mind. Former social worker, now urban farmer, Taneya Parks, blends mindfulness with horticulture using analogy to help you weed out what no longer serves you, while germinating new seeds of positivity. Coupled with seasonal planting tips and maintenance tricks for your raised bed vegetable garden, you’ll be well-equipped to tend your inner and outer garden from seed to harvest.

About the instructor:
Michigan native, Taneya Parks, set out to put roots down in Los Angeles in 2016. She did not anticipate the toll that adapting to big city life would have on her mental health, or that her lost sense of connection to green spaces would become the catalyst for her own personal growth. At a time when her mind felt overrun with pests and weeds, Taneya secured a raised bed in a Hollywood community garden and began growing vegetables for the first time. She found that as she prepped the soil, sowed seeds, nurtured the plants, and harvested with gratitude that a similar unfolding was taking place within her own life and affairs. Inspired by this connection, Taneya sought ways to further explore the ways in which gardening with mindfulness could promote a flourishing within the garden of the mind.

Taneya has worked in social work, led a therapeutic gardening group for adults battling mental illness, and is now the Lead Trainer for Farmscape, an urban farm team that designs, builds, plants, and maintains urban farms and edible landscapes for residential and corporate clients across Los Angeles and the Bay. In her free time Taneya still enjoys spending time in her community garden, both in her personal plot and as the Head Gardener of the Mansfield Fountain Community Garden.
