Seeds from Crescent Farm
Our Crescent Farm volunteer team has been hard at work hand-harvesting seeds, and they’re now available for purchase in the Arboretum Gift Shop!

Support Crescent Farm’s mission while adding beautiful California-native and climate-appropriate plants to your own yard. Take home a little bit of the Arboretum and help conserve water and build a biodiverse habitat at the same time!

Planting Instructions:
These California-native and climate-appropriate seeds should be sown in conjunction with the rainy season in Southern California, from the end of October to mid-February.
The smallest seeds can be spread widely, barely covered, then watered in. Keep soil moist until germination is noted.
Larger seeds should be buried at a depth that’s double or triple the size of the seed. Keep soil moist until germination is noted.
Because some of these plants can grow to be large, it’s best to separate them and plant them with some distance between each kind.
Grow in sandy, well-drained soil, and full sun for best results. Supplemental watering is not required expect in very dry growing seasons.
More detailed growing instructions for California native plants can be found by searching the species name on the CalScape website.
