Meet us in the garden for unique educational experience, exploring the plants behind our favorite spirits. Sip small tastings as we uncover the surprising stories behind the plants, medicines, and historical mishaps that helped shape drinking culture. Discover how Prohibition gave rise to soda fountain drug culture, why absinthe became both scandalous and irresistible in Victorian Europe, and how the humble gin and tonic played a role in the age of empire. Along the way, we’ll explore the botanicals behind some of our favorite spirited elixirs and the fascinating history hiding in every glass. We’ll wrap up with a short demonstration on the science of fermentation and how simple ingredients can be transformed into homemade hooch. Every sip has a story—cheers!

Event Details:
-Bring comfortable layers of clothing in preparation for the temperature shift that occurs after sundown.
-Apply sunscreen and insect repellent as needed.
-Wear comfortable walking shoes
–Must be 21 or older to attend, ID’s required

Day of Details:
-Meet your guide at the Main Entrance at the Arboretum.
-Check-in begins 15 minutes prior to event start time. Be prepared to show ID.
-As this is an after-hours event, gates will be locked promptly at event start time. No staff will be available to intercept late arrivals.
-Event will be cancelled due to weather related concerns and participants will be notified.

Cancellation/Reschedule/Refund Policy:
Cancellations or reschedules must be requested in advance of one week prior to the program start date in order to qualify for a refund or reschedule. Cancellations or reschedules requested within 7 days of the class start date will not qualify for a refund or reschedule. The Arboretum does not offer credit or reschedules for tardiness or missed classes. If you are unable to cancel within the required refund window, please consider your program fee a donation to the garden. Your registration confirms your understanding of and agreement with this policy.
