Library Access
General Public
The Library is open to everyone with regular Arboretum admission. The general public may use library materials on-site, but only Arboretum members may check out materials.
Library Hours: Tuesday-Saturday 8:30am-3pm
Daily Library tours 2-3pm
Circulation Privileges
Books and some magazines may be checked out by Arboretum members for three weeks at a time, plus an additional two renewals if needed. Items may be renewed in person, by phone, or by email. Please be sure to have your Membership Card with you. Learn more about becoming a member of the Arboretum.
For your convenience, books may be returned to staff at the Membership desk at the North Entrance.
Arboretum Members may also check out our large selection of e-books at the Library online catalog. For featured e-books and instructions go here. Be sure to put “LA” in front of your membership number when you encounter the paywall.
Overdue Items
The Library does not charge overdue fines.
Inter-library Loans
The Arboretum Library can arrange to borrow almost any item not in their collection through inter-library loan with other libraries. This service is available to Arboretum members.
Support Your Library
Reasonably used books are available for purchase starting at $1.00. Limited Edition Historical publications are available starting at $5.00. The Library gladly accepts monetary donations which will be used for materials and programming needs.
Donations
We cannot accept book, periodical, or photography donations at this time.
If you have a signed or rare book, please contact Librarian Leena Waller to discuss consideration for donation to our rare book collection. Please call 626-821-3213 or email leena.waller@arboretum.org.
Library Location
The Arboretum Library is located within the Arboretum at the top of the ramp, east of the main bathrooms.
During inclement weather (heat, cold, rain, or wind) go through the green gate and the Library is at the top of the ramps west of the entrance rotunda building.
